Recycling
Going Green
One of our efforts towards going green is through recycling. In February 2012, we have implemented a single stream recycling program. We have green bins located throughout campus for your convenience. The following items can be put into these bins for recycling:
- Paper(basically anything that tears)
- Cardboard
- Plastics #1 - 7 (except styrofoam)
- Aluminum
- Steel
- Tin
All items must be free of food waste although rinsing is not required.
As a result of our implementation of our new recycling program, we have reduced the number of dumpsters on campus by 20%. This not only improves the aesthetics of our campus by having less unsightly dumpster sites, butalso greatly reduces the amount of waste that we are sending to the landfill.
Phase I
Reduce the amount of dumpsters on campus by 20% 2012 Phase I Completed
Phase II
Reduce the amount of dumpsters on campus by 40% 2014
Phase III
Reduce the amount of dumpsters on campus by 20% 2016
Goal: 2016 Recycle 80% on campus + 20% to landfill

Educating our university community and Southeast Louisiana on the value of preserving our future through recycling and reuse.
