Academic Colleges


The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is composed of the Departments of Communication, English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History and Political Science, Music and Dramatic Arts, Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice, and Visual Arts.  The College also offers a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Resource Management.

 

The College of Business

The College of Business is composed of the Departments of Accounting, General Business, Management, and Marketing and Finance.  The College prepares students to be leaders of business, industry, and government in a dynamic global environment.  Complementing the primary commitment to quality instruction, the College values intellectual contributions of an applied or instructional nature and provides service activities to improve the quality of academic programs, students, and economic health of Southeast Louisiana.

 

The College of Education And Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development is composed of the Departments of Educational Leadership and Technology, Human Development, Teaching and Learning, and the Office of Student Teaching.  In addition, students in the Departments of Visual Arts, Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History and Political Science, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Mathematics, Music and Dramatic Arts, and Communication who are preparing to become teachers in elementary and secondary schools are enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development.  Teacher certification is also granted in health and physical education to Kinesiology and Health Studies majors in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

 

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is composed of the Department of Communications Sciences and Disorders, Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and the School of Nursing.  The focus of the college is on preparing students in the competencies needed to function effectively in health related disciplines.  Innovative curricula prepare students for practice and for graduate studies.

 

The College of Science and Technology

The College of Science and Technology is composed of the Departments of Biological Science, Chemistry and Physics, Computer Science and Industrial Technology, and Mathematics.

 

The Division of General Studies

The Division of General Studies offers associate and bachelor degree programs.  The academic advising program strives to promote student retention through personal contact between students and faculty.  For students still deciding on a major, General Studies offers Career Planning 104, a three-hour credit course which helps students explore personal values and viable career options.  For students nearing graduation, General Studies offers Career Planning 304, a three-hour credit course which assists students in the transition from college to the workplace.

 

Office of Research and Graduate Studies

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies promotes the professional competency of persons in schools, industry, and business, and prepares individuals to pursue further graduate education.  Graduate degree programs are offered in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology, Education & Human Development, and the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
