Welcome

Dr. Cynthia Elliott

Interim Department Head

ll

It is a pleasure to welcome you to The Department of Teaching and Learning! As you peruse information on our website, I hope you will notice the importance we place on preparing effective teachers who impact PK-12 student learning!

Whether you are interested in obtaining an undergraduate or graduate degree, alternative or add-on certification, you will find both learning opportunities and individuals to support, challenge and facilitate your knowledge, teaching performance, and dispositions to prepare young people to be successful in a collaborative, global, innovative age!

We offer teacher candidates curricula, guided field experiences, service-learning opportunities and supervision within an apprenticeship model, resulting in state certification through our undergraduate degrees in Early Childhood Education (Grades PK-3), Elementary Education (Grades 1-5), Middle School Education (Grades 4-8), and Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disabilities). Our comprehensive teacher preparation programs ensure that our graduates are the most recruited teachers by area school districts!

In our graduate degree programs, you may obtain a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction or a Master of Education in Special Education, both with various concentrations to enhance your professional learning and career choices. We also offer the Master of Arts in Teaching degrees for alternative certification candidates.

We work collaboratively with colleagues in our partner colleges, with area school districts and other agencies to provide relevant field experiences for our teacher candidates. Meaningful professional development activities are planned to enhance your preparation.

Our faculty have contemporary experiences in PK-12 settings and engage in scholarly endeavors that intersect their service to the community as well as inform their teaching. You will be excited at how you are mentored in becoming a reflective practitioner, as you combine theory into practice throughout your teaching experiences preparing you to meet the diverse needs all of learners!

Join us as we prepare individuals to make a difference in PK-12 educational settings and in the communities in which we work. You will be glad that you did!
