About the Division of Academic Affairs
Welcome to Southeastern's Office of the Provost and the Division of Academic Affairs.
Southeastern is a unique and exciting institution where great things are happening
in research and academics. As the university's provost, I am excited to be a part
of the changes that are occurring.
Changes in Southeastern's admissions standards have helped attract better prepared
students to Southeastern. Offering attractive scholarship packages, Southeastern is
quickly becoming the university of choice for students looking for a superior academic
experience that will challenge and excite them.
The realization of the new Center for Student Excellence, geared toward meeting the
needs of freshman students, improves not only the first-year experience of our students,
but should also affect student retention. The newly developed academic success class
administered by the Center points our freshmen to the many academic resources available
at Southeastern, while fostering one-on-one quality connections between students and
our faculty and staff.
Continuing to attract quality educators is an emphasis for Southeastern. Our quality
faculty are not only providing interactive teaching experiences for our students,
they are also engaged in research activities that are on the cutting edge of their
disciplines. Many of those research projects offer opportunities for undergraduate
students to work closely with faculty, providing them with a valuable educational
experience.
Southeastern also offers one of the largest graduate programs in Louisiana. The implementation
of our first doctoral program -- an Ed.D in Education Leadership --- not only represents
a new level of achievement at the university, but also provides additional choices
for students and educational professionals. Directed toward meeting the needs of our
school leaders, including demands to improve student performance, the doctoral program
promises to help improve the quality of education at all levels in our region.
It is my hope that your time with Southeastern, whether you are a student, faculty,
or staff member, is a memorable and exciting time where you are challenged and are
able to exceed beyond your expectations.
