Adapted Physical Education Certification
The Kinesiology and Health Studies Department at Southeastern is one of few programs in Louisiana offering courses leading to add-on teacher certification in Adapted Physical Education.
Adapted Physical Education certification requires the following courses:
Kinesiology 491/591: Intro to Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities
Kinesiology 492/592: Perceptual Motor Development of Individuals with Disabilities
Kinesiology 492/593: Physical Education for Individuals with Physical Disabilities and Other Impairments
Kinesiology 494/594: Curriculum Development for Adapted Physical Education
Special Education 200: Characteristics of Individuals with Exceptionalities
We offer all of these as evening courses and/or during the summer, facilitating working teachers being able to complete this add-on certification. Courses are offered on a rotational basis, with one course appearing each semester including the summer, thus it is possible to complete this certification in 2 academic years. The Kinesiology courses can be taken at the undergraduate or graduate level; graduate courses can be included in a M.A. in Health and Kinesiology.
