     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences honored top graduates and its 2013 alumnus of the year at its annual honors convocation May 6.

     Bev Marshall, a ­­­­1993 Southeastern graduate, was given the college's top alumni honor. Marshall has published three successful novels and continues to build readership and audiences as they are translated in other countries. Her novels have received numerous awards.

     She serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival and is the co-founder of the St. Tammany Parish Writers Group, as well as the Southeastern Louisiana University Writers Group.

     Departmental awards and scholarships were presented to the following:

     BATON ROUGE – Rachel Stafford, Martina Buck Award in History; Gregory Reda, Harold Leu Award in Political Science.

     BELLE CHASE – Julia Lemus, Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Spanish.

     COVINGTON – Marley Stuart, D Vickers Award in Creative Writing; Jenna Fucci, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Graphic Design; Sarah Bertrand, James Wilcox Award in Music; Paul Todd, Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Studio Art.

     DENHAM SPRINGS – Cassie Hall, Outstanding Senior in English.

     ETHEL – Haley Weaver, Outstanding Graduate in General Studies.

     FRANKLIN – Skyler Simoneaux, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Art History.

     HOUMA – Megan Cenac, Ralph R. Pottle, Sr. Honor Scholarship.

     KENTWOOD – Ashley Rohner, Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Psychology.

     LAPLACE– Ashley Reed, Outstanding Senior in English.

     MANDEVILLE – Stephanie Katz, Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Communication.

     PETAL, MISS. – Brandon Bernard, Director's Award for Academic Excellence in General Studies.

     PINE GROVE – Mandy Sibley, Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Criminal Justice.

     WALKER – Jessica Lee, Outstanding Senior in English.

     Also at the convocation, the college honored several faculty members with awards. Recognized were Joseph Burns, languages and communication, for excellence in service; Alissa Rowe, fine and performing arts, for excellence in artistic activity; and Marc Riedel, sociology and criminal justice, for excellence in research.

     The college honored inductees into the Southeastern chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, the university's honor society the Thirteen Club, and students on the President's List, Dean's List, and Honor Roll.

3) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (EAST FELICIANA) – The Southeastern Louisiana University student from East Feliciana Parish who was honored at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation was Haley Weaver from Ethel. She received the award for Outstanding Graduate in General Studies.

 

4) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (LIVINGSTON) -- Southeastern Louisiana University students from Livingston Parish who were honored at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation were, from left, Jessica Lee, Walker, Outstanding Senior in English in Creative Writing; and Cassie Hall, Denham Springs, Outstanding Senior in English in Language and Literature.

 

5) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (PLAQUEMINES) – Julia Lemus, a Southeastern Louisiana University student from Belle Chase, was among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation. Lemus received the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Spanish.

 

6) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST) -- Ashley Reed, a Southeastern Louisiana University student from La Place, was among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation. Reed was recognized as the Outstanding Senior in English in both Creative Writing and Languages and Literature.

 

7) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (ST. MARY) – Skyler Simoneaux, a Southeastern Louisiana University student from Franklin, was among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation. Simoneaux was recognized as the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Art History.

Rohner was recognized as the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Psychology.

 

10) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (TERREBONNE) – Megan Cenac, a Southeastern Louisiana University student from Houma, was among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation. Cenac received the Ralph R. Pottle, Sr. Honor Scholarship.

 

11) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (PETAL, MISS.) – Brandon Bernard, a Southeastern Louisiana University student from Petal, Miss., was among the award winners at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' May 6 honors convocation. Bernard was recognized with the Director's Award for Academic Excellence in General Studies.
