Speaker change announced for Southeastern program on health issues

HAMMOND – Carol H. Steckel, director of the state's Center of Health Care Innovation and Technology, will be the lead speaker at a discussion on current health issues to be held at Southeastern Louisiana University's Student Union Theatre at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Steckel is a last minute replacement for Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein who is unable to participate.
The program – aimed primarily for nurses and other health care professionals -- is part of Southeastern Louisiana University's Homecoming Week celebration.
Sponsored by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the program is free and open to the public. A reception sponsored by North Oaks Health System will be held immediately following in the common area adjacent to the theatre.
Steckel joined the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in 2010 and is charged with assisting the secretary in implementing a new health care agenda, including assisting with the state's response to the Affordable Care Act. Previously she served as the Commissioner of the Alabama Medicaid Agency for over six years.
She is a former president of the National Association of Medicaid Directors and has served on the board and as treasurer of the American Public Human Services Association.
