Art lecture to focus on colliding personalities of Van Gogh and Gauguin

HAMMOND –The failed attempt at collaboration of the two famous Post-Impressionist artists Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin will be the topic of a Let's Talk Art lecture scheduled at Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Assistant Professor of Art History Irene Nero will present "Van Gogh and Gauguin: When Egos Collide" at 5 p.m. on the third floor of the library. The lecture, sponsored by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the Friends of Sims Library and the Hammond Regional Art Center, is free and open to the public.
"In 1888, Van Gogh and Gauguin attempted to establish an artistic community in the south of France based on the communal living of Buddhist monk artists," said Sims Library Director Eric Johnson. "The two temperamental artists were unable to collaborate for long and parted ways after a violent fight. Dr. Nero will explore this failed endeavor and discuss what each artist contributed to the art world."
