District Rally Regulations and Policies


District Literary Rally 2008


1. Schools may enter only ONE district rally.

2. Participation in the Rally is limited to students in grades 9 - 12 of all public and private schools in the city of Bogalusa and the parishes of East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington and West Feliciana; however, only students from state-approved schools may qualify for the State Literary Rally Exception: Students enrolled in grades below the ninth are not eligible, except those taking high school courses in compliance with BESE Board Policies established in 1983.

3. Middle and ninth grade Junior High School students may enter Literary Rally competition if the subject is taught in his or her school.

4. High School students who have participated in early admissions programs at Colleges or Universities are eligible for the Rally competition and are governed by the same rules and regulations as other contestants.

5. A school shall not enter a contestant in a subject which is not offered by the school. A contestant must be regularly enrolled in the course in order to compete in that subject see Eligibility Rules on page 10 for exception.

6. Each school may send as many as two students in each event, with ONLY the high scoring of the two being eligible to qualify for state competition. Schools that choose to send a second student in some events must submit an additional $2.00 fee for each second student. The additional fees must be submitted at the Rally Business Meeting on Tuesday, March 6, 2007.

7. All Literary Tests will be limited to ONE HOUR ONLY.

8. In all written contests in literary subjects contestants will be graded not only on subject-matter but also on neatness in form and correctness and accuracy of expression.

9. The test questions for literary rally contests will be based on the latest edition of all textbooks now in use in the public schools of the state 10. Certain educational aides are not permitted, i.e., slide rules, dictionaries, English handbooks, etc. A Periodic Table will be available in the classroom for those students taking the Chemistry test.
