District Literary Rally 2009
1. Business Meeting: The Business Meeting of the Southeast Louisiana District Literary Rally Association will be held on Tuesday March 10, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the Banquet Room of Southeastern Louisiana University’s Alumni Center, Hammond, Louisiana to elect officers for the coming year and to discuss questions pertaining to the Rally. Refreshments will be provided before and after the meeting. Every school must be represented by its principal or appointed representative and at the Business Meeting if the school wishes to participate in the Rally.

3. Dues: The $35.00 dues paid to the Southeast Louisiana District Literary Rally Association only covers activities held at the District Rally on March 21, 2009. Please remember that State Rally dues are paid separately to the Louisiana High School Rally Association in Baton Rouge, and your school must be a member of the Louisiana High School Rally Association in order to participate on the State level. The Vonnie Borden Speech Festival or any other activity listed in this calendar may or may not require separate dues or participation fees. Please contact the person in charge of each event for information regarding additional fees.

5. Classification of Schools: Based on the total enrollment figure as of the completion of the first month of the school year as submitted on the official annual report to the State Department of Education, each school must determine the division in which it will compete.
K-12 schools use 9-12 grade enrollment as basis for classification. Middle, junior, 9th grade centers and other special schools use the annual report for purposes of classification.

6. Number of State Rally Qualifiers: The number of qualifiers in each event depends on the number of schools from the same division in that event according to the following schedule.

7. Contestant Registration: With our web-based rally system, you will register your students online for the rally competition again this year. Simply enter the following website address www.selu.edu/litrally/studentreg choose your school's name from the pull-down menu and enter the unique password that was e-mailed to you, then click the "Submit" button. Keep your password in a safe, secure place because you will need it to access your student information as you make updates and changes. From this location you can add students to your roster, update information on currently registered students, view and print your roster, and check the amount of your final billing. Just follow the on-screen directions.
The deadline for entering contestant information will be Friday, March 6, 2009. The Rally Business Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. It is at this meeting that you will submit payment for your "extra" students and turn-in your signed foreign language verification form. You will receive more information about the details of the business meeting at a later date.
8. Foreign Language Event Forms: Schools participating in any of the Foreign Language events must complete the Foreign Language Event Form, which verifies that the student is not a native speaker. In the online rally registration system, a Foreign Language Event form will automatically be generated and completed when a school enters students into a foreign language event. After printing the Foreign Language Event Form, it must be signed by both the principal and the Foreign Language instructor and must be submitted at the Business Meeting on March 10, 2009.
9. Rally Headquarters: On Rally Day, rally headquarters will be in the Student Union Commons Area in the War Memorial Student Union Building.
10. Contest Times: Contest times will be staggered with tests beginning at 9:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. and ending no later than 12:00 p.m.
11. Time Limit: Time limit for each contest will be one hour, except for Foreign Languages, which may overlap into another period.
12. Room Assignments: A list of room assignments will be given to each school at the business meeting containing information for each test and for various events on Rally Day
13. Supplies: Students should come equipped with all supplies needed to take the exam. They should bring several well sharpened, no. 2 pencils, ballpoint pens, and so on. Students will be supplied with an answer sheet and extra paper if necessary.
14. Unofficial Posting of Results: Unofficial Posting of Results: Every effort will be made to post unofficial results in the Student Union Mall by 2:00 p.m. Unofficial results will remain posted until at least 4:00 p.m. All students are encouraged to remain on campus until all results have been posted. The results may also be found on the Rally Website www.selu.edu/litrally as the results are being posted. Simply choose the "Rally Results on the Web" link from the Rally Website or go directly to the results page at www.selu.edu/litrally/results/
15. Official Results: The Official results, Certificates of Achievement, and medals will be mailed to participating schools during the week following the rally.
16. Hospitality/Entertainment: Principals, teachers, and other chaperones are invited to have coffee and doughnuts beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the Hospitality Room in the Student Union. Southeastern Louisiana University's Alumni Association is sponsoring the Eleventh Annual Rock 'N Roar Fest from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. featuring food booths, music, educational displays, exhibits, and much more.
