Bellairs resigns, Artigues appointed Interim Southeastern Athletics Director

HAMMOND – Officials with Southeastern Louisiana University announced today the resignation
of Athletics Director Bart Bellairs who joined the institution in November of 2009.
"I appreciate the dedication and integrity that Bart brought to administration
of our athletics program," said President John Crain. "Bart has been a stalwart advocate
for operating our athletics program in a way that is focused on the overall success
of the student athlete."
In announcing he will recommend to the University of Louisiana System Board of
Supervisors that current Head Baseball Coach Jay Artigues be appointed Interim Athletics
Director, Crain lauded Artigues for his successful tenure with the baseball program.
Assistant Baseball Coach Matt Riser will assume the reins of the baseball program
as Interim Head Coach.
"Coach Artigues has demonstrated great leadership skills and commitment to Lion
Athletics," Crain said. "I am confident he has the skill set to serve as an effective
Interim Director of Athletics."
"I am honored and humbled," said Artigues of his interim appointment. "I'm also
extremely excited about the future of Lion Athletics and confident that Matt Riser
will continue the strong tradition of Lion Baseball."
Southeastern will move forward immediately with the search to identify a permanent
athletics director.
