HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University is offering $4,000 scholarships to Louisiana high school students.

Called ExCEL, which stands for "excellence in commitment to education and leadership," the scholarships will be awarded to 20 students to be selected from more than 100 nominees. Applications were sent to every high school in the state of Louisiana during the month of December.

"We are looking for students who demonstrate excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities during their high school careers," said Cherie Kay Thriffiley, director of the Office for Student Engagement. "Students should contact their high school counselors for an application."

Thriffiley said applications are also available at southeastern.edu/excel_scholarships.  Completed applications are due to the Office for Student Engagement by Feb. 22.
