HAMMOND –The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University along with SCORE Northshore Chapter will host a comprehensive two-day workshop to test new business ideas and get entrepreneurs started on the right path.
The Simple Steps for Starting Your Business™ Series includes a two-day session to teach the basics of concepts involved in assessing a business idea, marketing products or services, understanding business financials and how they work and ways of funding and financing a business.
Sandy Summers, assistant director of the SBDC said that three introductory workshops, called "Start up Basics," will be offered at no charge for individuals to determine if the series is right for them. Start up Basics will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Hammond at the SBDC (1514 Martens Dr.) on Feb. 18; in Mandeville at the St. Tammany Center (21454 Koop Drive) on Feb. 19, and in Slidell at Living the Word International Church Training Center (1000 Caruso Blvd.) on Feb. 26.
"Three introductory workshops focus on the basics of testing a business idea and identifying the key factors that influence start-up success," said Summers. "The introductory classes will provide an overview of the skills and tools necessary to start a business."
Summers said attendees will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of owning a business, the most profitable form for business, and the fundamentals of formation, organization, marketing, cash flow and funding sources.
Simple Steps will be held in Mandeville at Southeastern's St. Tammany Center on March 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While the introductory workshop (Start up Basics) is free, the cost to attend the two-day workshop is $100. Those who fully register before March 5 will pay just $75.
Summers said the fee includes an abundance of tools and resources, along with food and beverages. One additional attendee from the same company may attend the series at no cost.
