Southeastern Extended Studies offering novel writing courses

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University's Extended Studies is offering two courses on
novel writing at the university's St. Tammany Center on Koop Drive in Mandeville.
Taught by award-winning author Robin Wells, the first five-week course, "How
to Write a Novel," will cover the basics of fiction writing, including story structure,
plotting, character development, dialogue, description and point of view. The class
will be held Sept. 3 - Oct 1, on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:15 p.m.
The second course, "Advanced Novel Writing," is a follow-up class for those who
have previously completed the basic course and is designed to help writers implement
the learned techniques. It will begin on Sept. 9, and will be held for five consecutive
Mondays through Oct. 7, from 7-8:15 p.m. Each course costs $150.
A resident of Mandeville, Wells is the author of 16 novels that have been translated
into 19 different languages. She has won two National Readers' Choice Awards, the
Romance Writers' of America Golden Heart Award, the Holt Medallion and the Award of
Excellence. The St. Tammany Parish Commission on Cultural Affairs also named Wells
the Literary Artist of the Year for 2011.
