HAMMOND – In celebration of Southeastern Louisiana University's Green and Gold Week, the Hammond Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a spirit award contest called "Go Bold with Green and Gold."

Green and Gold Week is the celebration of all things Southeastern leading up to the first Lion home football game of the season on Sept. 8 against South Dakota State at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

"The Hammond Chamber is proud to present a Southeastern Spirit Award monthly to businesses that help champion OUR university – Southeastern," said Chamber Executive Director Charlotte Banks. "We wanted to really step up this month's award in honor of Green and Gold Week. We're challenging local businesses to take their love of the Lions to a new level. Show your pride with window and/or window displays, employee uniforms, Lions merchandise or however else you see fit!"

In addition to recognition at the Chamber's October General Meeting, an award plaque, traveling vinyl award banner and publicity photos with Roomie the Lion mascot, the winner of the September spirit award will also receive 20 tickets with Strawberry Stadium Party Patio access and a tailgate spot for the Lions vs. Stephen F. Austin game on Nov. 10.

Additional activities for Green and Gold Week include the video/photo contest "Let the Good Times Roar." Due to Hurricane Isaac, the deadline for submissions has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. All submissions should be sent to carley.cryer@southeastern.edu.

Category submission, name and phone number of the contact person should be included in the message portion of the e-mail.
