Occupational safety specialist receives Baton Rouge safety award

     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University occupational safety specialist Lu Yuan has been awarded the Langlois-Weigland Award by the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

     The award is presented to an individual who has provided significant service to the chapter over a sustained period of time and who has contributed to the field of safety.

     Yuan, assistant professor of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment in the Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology, was recognized for his role in helping Southeastern's program obtain its recent ABET accreditation, for his research on ergonomics in construction and library environments and for being a trusted advisor and educator of future safety professionals.

     The award is named in honor of Langlois Weigand and Associates, a Baton Rouge safety consulting firm.
