Guest violinist scheduled at Southeastern November 14

HAMMOND – Guest artist Jubal Fulks, assistant professor of violin at the University of Alabama, will perform a recital at Southeastern Louisiana University on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Pottle Music Recital Hall, the free recital will feature 20th and 21st century chamber music.
The concert will include two additional musicians from the University of Alabama - Lauren Varley on horn and Kevin Chance on piano. The program includes a world premiere work for violin and horn by Southeastern Music Instructor Philip Schuessler entitled "Binding Song," as well as works by George Crumb and John Cage. The concert concludes with a work by Gyorgy Ligeti called "Trio" for violin, horn and piano.
"We are very fortunate to be hosting Jubal Fulks and his colleagues in a fascinating program of contemporary chamber music," said Kenneth Boulton, interim head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. "This visit is yet another in a series of concerts spotlighting music of our era, and a splendid opportunity for our students to experience these performances in a visceral, live fashion."
Violinist Fulks is an award-winning and critically acclaimed artist and master teacher who specializes in both contemporary and Baroque repertory. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras across the United States and has been heard on National Public Radio's "Performance Today."
His orchestral experience includes the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra in the San Francisco Bay area, in New York City at the Mostly Mozart Festival at Alice Tully Hall, in the Jazz at Lincoln Center series, and the New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. As a recitalist, he has appeared at numerous summer festivals and concert series in the United States and has toured extensively in Europe with orchestras and chamber groups.
