HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Division of Extended Studies is offering three new career enrichment workshops focused on project management that will be held at its regional locations in Livingston, Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes.

Taught by Trey Miller, senior project management consultant and instructor with Global Project Management, the workshops will be held at the Hammond main campus, the Livingston Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Boulevard, in Walker, and the St. Tammany Center, 21454 Koop Drive, in Mandeville. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) can be earned for these professional development programs.

Microsoft Project 2010 is a one-day workshop designed to teach participants how to build and modify a project schedule, which will assist them in managing projects. The workshop is scheduled in Mandeville on April 23, in Hammond on April 24, and in Walker on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $299.

“Participants will be led through the process of building and modifying a schedule using hands-on exercises,” said Miller. “These exercises will include adding tasks, organizing tasks in a work breakdown structure, sequencing, creating and assigning resources, organizing project information, updating the schedule and generating reports.”

Project Management Fundamentals (PMF) is a two-day workshop designed to prepare project managers and others planning a career in project management with the skills and tools necessary to successfully plan, manage, and deliver projects on time and within budget.

The program highlights the five project management process groups -- Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring/Controlling, and Closing -- and their interaction with the nine project management knowledge areas of integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement, Miller said.

“Areas of emphasis will include creating a scope statement and work breakdown structure, estimating, project scheduling, earned value management, communications management and risk management,” he added.

The PMF workshops are scheduled in Mandeville on May 29, in Hammond on May 31 and in Walker on June 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $695.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam Preparation is a two-day workshop based on the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge.

“The primary goal of this workshop is to prepare students to successfully pass the PMP Certification Exam,” said Miller.

The workshop is scheduled in Mandeville on June 25, in Hammond on June 27 and in Walker on July 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $740, with an additional $45 materials fee.
