GABRIELLE PALMA WINS 2011 SOUTHEASTERN CROWN -- Southeastern Louisiana University’s new Miss Southeastern, Gabrielle Palma of Mandeville, receives her crown from her predecessor, Lacey Sanchez of Baton Rouge. 


MISS SOUTHEASTERN 2011 WINNERS – A new Miss Southeastern was crowned Saturday night (Aug. 28) at the annual pageant. Congratulating the winners are Vice President for Student Affairs Marvin Yates, far left and Southeastern President John L. Crain, far right. Award winners in the pageant included, from left, Noel Stilley, second runner-up, Miss Southeastern 2011 Gabrielle Palma, Heather Hand, first runner-up, and Lacie Thomas, third runner-up. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board, the pageant is affiliated with the Miss American pageant system.


     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University mass communication and journalism major Gabrielle Palma of Mandeville has been chosen Miss Southeastern 2011.
     Palma received her crown from Miss Southeastern 2010 Lacey Sanchez of Baton Rouge at the annual pageant Saturday (Aug. 28) at Southeastern’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the Miss Southeastern pageant is affiliated with the Miss America Pageant system.
     A sophomore, Palma also received the Interview Award, the Internet Choice Award and the Miss Congeniality Award. She is the daughter of Harold and Dena Palma.
     First runner-up was Heather Hand, a freshman music major from Denham Springs. Hand also received the pageant’s talent award for her vocal performance “At Last.’ Noel Stilley of Albany, a junior biology major, was second runner-up. She was also honored with the “Miracle Maker” award for her fund-raising efforts in connection with the Miss America Pageant’s charity, the Children’s Miracle Network. Stilley and Hand tied as winners of the pageant’s evening gown segment. 
     Third runner-up was junior speech pathology major Lacie Thomas of Denham Springs. Thomas also won the swimwear segment.
     Samantha Williams, a junior nursing major from Voorhees, NJ, was the recipient of the “People’s Choice” award, which was voted on by the people.
     Palma will advance to the Miss Louisiana pageant, which will be held in Monroe in June.
