HAMMOND – Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of “Robinson Crusoe” will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, 4 p.m., at Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Missoula Children’s Theatre has been a popular participant in Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare arts celebration since 1992. The non-profit educational theater troupe returns to Fanfare 2008 with a script loosely based on the popular fictional character in Daniel Defoe’s classic.

“Children in grades kindergarten through high school may audition,” said Michelle Biggs, marketing director for the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts and Fanfare. “Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with a Missoula tour actor/director. Missoula will cast the young actors on Monday and get started right away teaching them lines, staging, songs and movement. By Friday, the children will be ready to perform, complete with professionally designed costumes and scenery.”

Students wishing to audition must arrive by 4 p.m. and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition and lasts until 8:30 p.m.

“Since it is a group audition, no advance preparation is necessary – but a smile never hurts,” said Biggs. “Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!”

Rehearsals will be conducted daily from 4-8:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Lab School on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 8, and at the Columbia Theatre, 220 E. Thomas St. in downtown Hammond, on Thursday, Oct. 9.

“Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role,” said Biggs. “A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition.”

“Robinson Crusoe” will be performed at the Columbia Theatre. Performances for area schools will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, at 9:30 a.m. and noon. Performances for the public are scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances and rehearsals.

Tickets for the public performances are $14, adults; $12.50, senior citizens, Southeastern faculty, staff and alumni, $10.50 for non-Southeastern students and $7 for Southeastern students. They are available online at columbiatheatre.org or at the box office, 985-549-4371. Special discounted tickets may not be available online.

The Missoula Children's Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Mont. This season, more than 65,000 young people across the globe will take to part in Missoula productions.
