Sixteen named to 2008 Homecoming courts

(1) 2008 SOUTHEASTERN HOMECOMING COURT – Eight Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen as members of the 2008 Homecoming court and will reign over Homecoming festivities, Oct. 13-18.      HAMMONDSixteen Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen as members of the 2008 Homecoming queen and beau courts. The eight women and eight men will reign over Homecoming festivities Oct. 13-18.

     Chosen as members of the queen court were seniors Molly Fenton of Houma, Jennifer O’Connell of Mandeville, Alissa Stewart of Hammond, and Tiffany Williams of Gonzales; juniors Brittany Bacques of Chalmette, Megan Faunce of Loranger, and Dynnishea Jones of Baton Rouge; and sophomore Kaleigh Aguilar of Belle Chasse.

     Members of the beau court are seniors Chris Barcelona of Marrero, Brad Cascio of Hammond, Bryan Jones of Baton Rouge, Matt Perrin of Marrero, and Breland Williams of Kenner; and juniors Shane Firmin of Baton Rouge, Cliff Speed of Greensburg, and Justin ‘JT’ Thymes of Maringouin.

     The 2008 Homecoming queen and beau, the top junior or senior vote-getters in the recent online campus election, will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game when the Lions take on Northwestern State on Homecoming Day, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

     The court also will participate in Homecoming festivities such as Gumbo Ya Ya on Oct. 15, the bonfire and pep rally on Oct. 16, and the 2 p.m. Homecoming Day parade.

     Fenton, an international business major, is sweetheart of the Senior Class. She is president of Alpha Omicron Pi, Student Government Association executive for Greek affairs, and was named 2008 Greek Woman of the Year. She received a Southeastern Student Foundation Leadership Award.

     Stewart is majoring in elementary education. She is sweetheart of Phi Mu sorority, a Southeastern Ambassador, 2008 sorority counselor and was a 2007 Orientation Leader.

     Tiffany Williams, a biology/pre-medicine major, is sweetheart and a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She is a member of the Student Government Association and the Project PULL peer mentoring program.

     O’Connell, a political science major, is sweetheart of Theta Xi fraternity. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, College Republicans, and a President’s List student. She serves as a fitness instructor at the Pennington Student Activity Center.

     Baques is sweetheart and a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority. A social work major, she is a member of Leadership Southeastern and was a 2007 Orientation Leader. She is the recipient of a Southeastern Student Foundation Leadership Award.

     Faunce, sweetheart and member of Alpha Omicron Pi, is also active on the Dream Team, Southeastern’s student Homecoming committee. A social work major, she received the Student Leadership Foundation and Green “S” awards and is a Dean’s List student.

     Dynnishea Jones, a nursing major, is sweetheart of the Junior Class. She is a Student Government Association senator and was named “Senator of the Month.” She is also a member of the Southeastern Gospel Choir and a “Gospel Apollo” winner.

     Aguilar, sweetheart of the Sophomore Class, is an elementary education major. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and Gamma Beta Phi and an Orientation Leader. She was named 2007-2008 Freshman Woman of the Year.

     Barcelona, beau of Theta Phi Alpha sorority, is a history major. He is former president of the Student Government Association and a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a Homecoming court member for the past two years.

     Cascio, a criminal justice major, is beau of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He also serves as the fraternity’s president and was named its Man of the Year. He is also a member of the Italian Club and is a Green S award recipient.

     Bryan Jones is beau of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and is a human resource management major. He is a member of the Black Student Union.

     Perrin, a communication major, is beau of the Senior Class. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and a 2008 LEAD facilitator. He was an intramural sports flag football most valuable player last year and was named to “Who’s Who Among National Colleges and Universities.”

     Breland Williams is a sports management major and beau of the Sports Management Association. He is vice president of the Dream Team and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was named a Kappa Alpha Psi scholar and National Pan-Hellenic Council most outstanding member.

     Firmin, a business management major, is a member of Delta Tau Delta, Leadership Southeastern, and an Orientation Leader. Beau of Phi Mu, he is a Student Leadership Foundation Award recipient.         

     Speed is beau and a member of Gamma Beta Phi. An accounting major, he is a member of Delta Tau Delta and a President’s List student. He was also published in the student writing journal “The Pick.”

     Thymes is majoring in communication and is beau of the Junior Class. He is director of leadership development for the Student Government Association and was a 2007 Orientation Leader. He is also a housing resident assistant and a Green S award recipient.
