southeastern.edu

Welcome, southeastern.edu

This page will address the most frequently asked questions surrounding the new domain name and what will happen to selu.edu.

Q: What happens to my @selu.edu email address? When can I use an @southeastern.edu email address?

A: Nothing is happening to your current @selu.edu email address. You many continue to use it as you always have. However, you now have the option to align your email address with the university's new domain name. Both versions will continue to work. For example, if your email address is firstname.lastname@selu.edu, you can also use firstname.lastname@southeastern.edu. Both addresses have been set to point to your account, allowing for delivery of email to your inbox. There is nothing you need to do on your end to set up this change. If you have any questions about transitioning to @southeastern.edu, please contact helpdesk@southeastern.edu.

Q: What about "bookmarks" and "favorites" on my computer that are set to pages that read selu.edu?

A: All of your bookmarks and favorites will still work. Any selu.edu URL will automatically be redirected to the southeastern.edu URL. You may see the URL in your address bar automatically change from selu.edu to southeastern.edu. This is expected. You can update your bookmarks if you wish, but it is not necessary that you do so.

Q: What about search engines that still use selu.edu in their results?

A: Search engine rankings were carefully considered before this transition was launched. When your browser is redirected to a southeastern.edu URL, the server will send an "HTTP 301 Moved Permanently" status code to the search engine. Search engines will automatically retrieve this status and update their databases with the new URL accordingly. It is estimated that it will take six months for search engines to fully update with the new information.

Q: What is the timeline for the transition to southeastern.edu?

A: You will see southeastern.edu start showing up in your browser on various sites throughout the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. Heavily used sites such as the main site, Leonet, Blackboard and Moodle will be moved during this time. You can start using @southeastern.edu for email now or continue to use @selu.edu if you so choose.

Q: When should I start using southeastern.edu in official university publications?

A: We ask that you start using southeastern.edu in any and all communication mediums now. We realize that budget constraints may prohibit re-printing of current materials, but the university will use the new web address and/or email suffix on any future promotional pieces or publications.
