Academic Search Complete-- Indexes, abstracts and provides selected full-text of articles published in scholarly publications from many disciplines.

JSTOR-- Indexes, abstracts and provides full-text of scholarly journal articles in the fields of ecology, economics, education, finance, history, mathematics, political science and population studies.

Literature Resource Center-- Provides full-text of biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis of the work of more than 90,000 authors from every age and literary discipline.

MLA International Bibliography-- Indexes articles from literary and language journals, books essay collections, conference proceedings, dissertations and bibliographies. Provides links to small selection of full-text articles.

Project Muse-- Indexes, abstracts and provides full-text of scholarly journal articles in the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, and gender studies.

ProQuest Research Library-- Indexes, abstracts and provides selected full-text of popular and scholarly periodicals from many disciplines.


Internet Sites

American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages -- A national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction.

Culture Studies Central -- CSC features original interactive commentary and analysis, links cultural studies resources, and pointers to World Wide Web projects devoted to special cultural studies interests.

Ethnologue -- This site, sponsored by the Institute of Linguistics, provides information on languages and dialects spoken in each country of the world. Language maps are also provided, providing graphical information on dialects spoken in regions of the country. Information is also provided on literacy rates as well as other demographic information.

Voice of the Shuttle: Literatures (Other than English) Page -- Contains an annotated set of links to sites concerned with literature written in many European languages, as well as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. A helpful link to sites with text-analysis and bibliographic software is included.

French
ABU: La Bibliotheque Universelle -- L'Association des Bibliophiles Universels offers access to public domain French literature texts. Browseable by author name or title. In French.

Tennessee Bob's Famous French Links -- Described as "a 5,000-Link Globe-Gate Supersite," this site is the brainchild of Robert Peckham at the University of Tennessee, Martin. Organized in broad categories concerned with aspects of French culture (language, literature, media, the fine arts) or with acquiring a knowledge of the French language (French across the curriculum, education in French- speaking schools). The section on finding new Francophone sites ensures that users will learn to identify new resources themselves or pursue information about related topics. Unfortunately, links are not annotated.

Voltaire Foundation -- Based at the University of Oxford, this site includes texts, publications, other information.

German
German Literature on the Internet: Text Collections and Author Index -- A list of links compiled by the Western European Specialists Section of the Association of Colleges and Research Libraries. In Enlish or German.

German Studies Trails on the Web -- Compiled by Andreas Lixl-Purcell, professor of German at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Includes a set of links to German-language search engines and subject trees. A hierarchical subject tree helps users to quickly locate Web pages on various aspects of German culture and life. Links may be accompanied by a one-to-three-word note indicating the subject they cover; notes are often in German, but sometimes in English.

Italian
Antologia (frammentaria) della Letteratura Italiana -- Texts of Italian literature. In Italian.

Digital Dante -- Information about Dante, biography, bibliography, etc.

Spanish
America Reads Spanish -- The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade and the Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds, have developed the America Reads Spanish site to promote Spanish literature in the United States. The site contains an excellent author section that gives brief biographies and links to outside resources.

Biblioteca Quijotesca -- Collection of texts about Cervantes and Quijote. In Spanish.

Cervantes Project 2001 -- The Cervantes Project is based at Texas A&M University. It plans to publish electronically the Cervantes International Bibliography Online, the Anuario Bibliografico Cervantinos, editions of Cervantes complete works, and a digital archive of images from Cervantes' times and works. Not yet complete but contains valuable information and excellent images.

The Jorge Luis Borges Center for Studies and Documentation -- The Borges Center is based at the University of Aarhus in Denmark and is dedicated to the study and research of works by Borges. Includes bibliography, biography, and a wealth of information about Borges and his works.

World Wide Web Virtual Library -- A handy index of all things Latin American. Sites are indexed by country and by topic. In addition, links to projects of the University of Texas-Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC) are included. Many entries contain scope notes in either English or Spanish.
