Banned Books Week Exhibition
09/22/09 by: Penny Hecker
Each September since 1982, the American Library Association has celebrated Banned Books Week, which promotes "the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one's opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular.” Using humorous parodies of classic science fiction movie posters and other colorful visual elements, Sims Library has created a unique display, The Day the Books Were Banned, to inform and educate the Southeastern community about banned and challenged books. According to ALA, the annual celebration reminds Americans "not to take this precious freedom for granted."
The exhibit will run from September 28, 2009 through October 31, 2009 on the second floor of the Library. Please visit us and celebrate your right to read!
