Circulation Department


The Circulation Department is located on the first floor of the Sims Memorial Library adjacent to the exit doors. The mission of the Circulation Department is to ensure accessiblity to the fourth floor circulating collections through ongoing stacks maintentance and efficient circulation policies and procedures. The Department is also responsible for the circulation and processing of course reserve materials. The Circulation Department provides assistance in locating and circulating the fourth floor and reserve materials to the Southeastern Louisiana University community.

The Circulation Department is a unit of the Access Services Department.

Services

  • Friends of the Library
    We welcome members of the community and students not currently enrolled to use the resources at Sims Memorial Library. You may borrow materials by becoming a "Friend of the Library". You may purchase a "Friend" borrowing card at the Circulation desk. The fee is $25.00/year for a single membership and $30.00/year for a family of up to 5 members. Information about loan periods is available at the Circulation Department or online on the general circulation policies web page.

  • Guests & Guest Printing Cards
    Guests are welcome to browse and use any of the open stack collections in the Library. Guests may borrow circulating print materials by becoming a Friends of the Library.

    "Guest Printing Cards" for printing from the public access computers in the Reference Department (1st floor), Serials Department (2nd floor), and Government Documents (3rd floor) are available for purchase in the Circulation Department. The charge for guest printing is $.10/page. The cards may be purchased in denominations of $1.00 (10 pages) or $5.00 (50 pages). Only cash payments are accepted.

  • LALINC Reciprocal Borrowing
    The Library participates in LALINC (Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium) with private and public academic libraries within the state. Through a Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement, Southeastern faculty, staff and students may check out materials from participating libraries by presenting a LALINC card issued by Southeastern's Library and a Southeastern ID card.
    To apply for a LALINC card, please visit the circulation desk at Sims Library or at the Baton Rouge Nursing Library. To have a LALINC card mailed to your home address, you may fill out the online LALINC Borrowing Card Application and fax or mail the completed form to the Circulation Desk in Sims Library at: SLU Box 10896, Hammond, LA 70402.

  • Received or "In Process" Materials
    Materials in the Library Catalog that have a Location of "In Process" or "Received" can be rush cataloged within three working days. To request rush cataloging of in process or received materials fill out the "Request Received Materials Form" at the Circulation Desk or submit the form online. You will be notified when the item is cataloged, and the item will be held at the Circulation Desk for seven days for you to pick up.

  • Searches
    Materials in the Library Catalog that are not checked out and not found on the shelves can be searched by circulation staff. You may fill out a "Search Request" at the Circulation Desk. If the item is found, you will be notified and the item will be held at the Circulation Desk for seven days for you to pick up.

  • Holds and Recalls

    Holds and Recalls may be placed on a item that is checked out. If you request a hold you will be notified when the item is returned; if you request a recall we will notify the patron that the item is needed by another patron. Recalls can only be requested after an item have been checked out for 28 days.

    To request a hold on an item from the Library Catalog click on the "Place Hold" link to the right of the "Item Information." Holds may be also be requested at the circulation desk. Recalls must be requested at the Circulation Desk.

  • Study Rooms
    Study rooms that will accommodate 4-6 persons are available on the 2nd and 4th floors of the library. They are available on a first-come basis. To use a study room on the 4th floor you may register on the 4th floor or at the Circulation desk; to use a study room on the 2nd floor you must register in the Media Department. A valid Southeastern ID is required to use the rooms.

  • Stack Maintenance
    The Department is responsible for the maintenanace and management of the 4th floor stacks. During most of the Library's open hours circulation staff is present on the fourth floor to assist patrons. Questions or concerns about the 4th floor collections should be directed to the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor.
