International Admissions Criteria
All students who are not citizens of the United States or who do not possess a resident alien card are classified as International students
Transfer students with less than 12 hours of college credit
1. Must meet the beginning freshmen admission criteria.
2. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on all college level work.
3. Must be eligible to return to the last college or university attended.
Transfer students with more than 12 hours of college credit
(excluding any developmental courses)
1. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on all college level work.
2. Must have a minimum TOEFL score of 173 computer-based or 500 paper-based.
3. Must be eligible to return to the last college or university attended.
4. Must have not more than one developmental course requirement.
• Students earning an ACT Math component score of 17 or below or who have not
successfully completed the first level of college math will need Developmental Math.
• Students earning an ACT English component score of 17 or below or who have not
successfully completed the first level of college English will need Developmental English.

Proof of Immunization compliance -- Each student is required to present proof of immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella (both initial and booster shot) and tetanus-diphtheria booster (within the last 10 years) or file the request for exemption before registration is allowed.
Financial statement -- Fees and expenses at Southeastern are estimated to be at least $15,000 for one academic year, not including the summer term. This figure includes tuition, housing, meals, textbook rental and health insurance, but does not include cost of transportation to and from the United States. This amount is subject to change at any time. A financial statement of support together with a letter from the certifying financial institution must be submitted for any student who requires an I-20 or DS2019.
Southeastern Louisiana University will not assume the financial responsibility of any international student.
Proof of Insurance -- All international students must be covered health, accident, and repatriation insurance. Before final admission to Southeastern is granted, each international student must show proof that he or she is currently insured by a valid health and accident policy. Such insurance is available through the University at the time of registration for an approximate cost of $216 per semester. More information may be obtained from the International Services Office.
TOEFL SCORE -- Proficiency in English is required. All students whose education was earned outside of the United States or whose native language is not English are required to furnish a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score. No other evidence of English proficiency is accepted. A score of at least 173/500 is required for regular admission and 195/525 for the MBA program. Transcripts/Official Records
Undergraduate Admission -- The applicant must have graduated from a recognized secondary school and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. Southeastern requires official records of all secondary schools attended, showing subjects taken and grades received as well as any national or government certificates earned. Notarized translation in English is also required. Official copies must be sent directly from the secondary school or university to the Admissions Office. Requirements for admission are those recommended by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). A Foreign Student Advisor’s report must be completed if the student is transferring from a U.S. school.
Graduate Admission -- The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year university to enroll in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. Documents of all college or university coursework must be sent in the regional language, along with English translations. The applicant must request that complete official transcripts be mailed to the Admissions Office directly from each school attended. A Foreign Student Advisor’s report must be completed if the student is transferring from a United States school.
Scholastic Record and Test Requirements
Undergraduate Admission -- All freshmen or transfer students with less than 30 credit hours (excluding any developmental courses) are required to take the ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) for placement in English and mathematics courses. Information regarding the ACT can be found at www.act.org and information regarding the SAT can be found at www.collegeboard.com. You should request that your test scores be sent directly to Southeastern. For students who are not able to schedule this test prior to admission, we will arrange for a residual ACT to be taken at Southeastern for a cost of $35.
Graduate Admission - The graduate applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year university.
- GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores are required for all graduate degree programs, except the MBA, MAT, and Music programs.
- The MBA program requires GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score of at least 400.
