Early Start
Welcome to Southeastern Louisiana University’s 2011-2012 Early Start Program.
In an effort to provide increased opportunities for college-bound high school students,
enrollment in Southeastern’s Early Start Program will afford students the opportunity
to earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously while remaining in the
familiar environment of their high schools. Through our program, courses are presented
on high school campuses in partnership with Southeastern faculty.
Participation in Southeastern’s Early Start Program provides students a head start on their collegiate career while completing high school. Since many college students require more than four years to complete a degree, completion of college work while in high school affords the opportunity to complete college degrees in a shorter period of time thereby decreasing the cost of a college education.
For the past several years Southeastern has offered Math and English courses as part of the Early Start program. However, for 2011-2012 we are excited that our program is expanding to include:

This year we are looking forward to another year of collaboration with our partner high schools and school systems as we prepare for the 2011-2012 Early Start Program. With over 2,100 students in 37 high schools last year, we anticipate higher enrollment and increased high school participation due to our expanded curriculum. We are very happy to welcome new schools to our program this year and we are excited at the high number of returning schools from which even more of their best students are taking advantage of the “Early Start” opportunity. We were very pleased with the success rate of last year’s participants and are expecting even better results this year. We are confident that students who participate in our program will gain extraordinary benefits from the experience and, as a result, be much better prepared for college-level work after graduating from high school.
Once again it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Southeastern’s Early Start
Program. We are excited about the opportunities that are being provided to the high
school students of our region and extremely proud of the work that the high school
teachers and our university professors are doing to provide students with challenging
academic experiences that will prepare them to be successful in college and beyond.
