Southeastern Degree Programs

Don Elbers
Class of 2005
Computer Science/Mathematics

Although Don Elbers majored in computer science, one of the things he loved about Southeastern was the opportunity it gave him to also indulge his love of music, mathematics and service. With a perfect 4.0 grade point average in his major, he has received a prestigious graduate fellowship in computer science at Tulane University. One of the reasons he feels he has been able to make such a successful leap into post-graduate studies is because, "By taking Southeastern classes in computer science, math, and music, I have become a more well-rounded and better person overall." In addition to majoring in computer science, conducting mathematics research and presenting his findings at professional conferences, Don also played the trombone in ensembles such as the Southeastern Wind Symphony, designed web pages for the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, served as a student executive vice president for the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, and helped with the annual Science Olympiad. He attributes his success to the personal attention and caring of Southeastern faculty. "Southeastern professors really strive to work with the students," he said. "They make sure that students not only understand the material, but that they're also enjoying their experience here at Southeastern." "I know that I did," he added. "I hope to get my doctorate and, hopefully, come back and teach, either at Southeastern, or another fine university in the state of Louisiana."
