Overview of the program
The Master of Arts in Teaching is an alternative program leading to Louisiana teaching certification in early intervention. A strong emphasis is placed on relevant field experiences throughout the program. Teacher candidates are required to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and disposition needed to have a positive impact on student achievement in children birth - five years old.
Strengths of the program
- The Elementary Education program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
- Course objectives and learner outcomes are aligned with the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching, The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Learned Societies, and Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium.
- The Faculty consists of highly qualified and caring individuals who are dedicated to producing the highest quality teachers.
- Hands-on experience, including 180 hours of field experience prior to student teaching.
