Overview of the program


All counseling programs consist of a minimum of 60 hours of study, meeting the academic requirements for Louisiana licensure in counseling and/or marriage and family therapy. The second year of study emphasizes a clinical internship, consisting of 2-3 semesters of intensive counseling work at an approved community internship site.

Strengths of the program


The program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Program faculty are nationally/internationally recognized as leaders in the counseling field.

Preparing for a job in the program


Following completion of the graduate degree, there is a two-year post degree supervised experience required for licensing.

Careers in the program


Qualified counselors are widely sought after to work in professional mental health roles in private and public organizations, schools, and private practice.

Starting Salaries after completing the program (estimates only)


Starting salaries in Louisiana for counselors begin in the mid 20K range. The average national salary for a licensed counselor is approximately $56,000.
