The Department of Communication teaches:

Concentrations
A concentration is the specialization in one area of the degree program. Concentrations within the BA Communication program include:
- Mass Communication and Journalism

Strengths of the program
- One of our biggest strengths is our faculty. In addition to their excellent academic preparation, our faculty has extensive professional experience.
- Another strength is the superior facilities we offer. Our students have access to state-of-the-art digital video and audio editing labs, writing and layout labs, KSLU radio and the Southeastern Channel, a cable channel that has a three-parish viewership.
- Our debate team was recently ranked second in the United States.
- One of our majors has just been nominated for an Emmy award for a television show he produced for the Southeastern Channel.
Careers in the program
Graduates of our program find jobs as writers, anchors, directors, disc jockeys, station managers, casting directors, producers, public relations managers, newspaper reporters, editors, media buyers, copy writers, and speech writers.
Graduates also find jobs in the business world as sales executives, managers, public information officers, and human resource managers.
Starting Salaries after completing the program (estimates only)
$35,000 to $50,000.

Notable Alumni
Two of our most famous alumni are Robin Roberts, host of ABC's Good Morning America, and Steve Bellas, former producer and anchor at New Orleans WDSU. However, many of our students are making names for themselves as newspaper writers, radio and television journalists, and public relations professionals.
