Excellence in Staff Service
Steve Leon
Director of Auxiliary Service
Steve Leon is always cheerfully willing to serve. He was raised to work hard, he loves Southeastern, and he thinks mentoring students and working with campus and community colleagues is gratifying -- and fun.
In 27 years on the Southeastern staff, Leon has taken on tasks from riding herd on
fraternity brothers to ferrying cheerleaders. He has built a pizza parlor in the snack
bar, landscaped dorms, cooked pot after ever-bigger pot of jambalaya, and flipped
hundreds of homecoming hamburgers in both fair weather and foul.
Off campus, he has both founded and led professional organizations, pitched in on
civic projects from toy drives to hospice galas, coached soccer teams and volunteered
at his kids’ school.
He has served as an advisor to Sigma Tau Epsilon fraternity, and has volunteered with
a number of organizations, including the Hammond Kiwanis Club, Louisiana Special Olympics,
and the Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation. In the professional arena, he helped create
the Louisiana Association of Housing Offices and has been an active member of the
National Association of College Auxiliary Services for the Southern region.
According to his friend and mentor, Nick Bruno, “He has a reputation for hard work,
a positive attitude, creative thinking and being an advocate for students.”
“You do it because of the people,” Leon said. “And you do it because you love the
place that has given you so much.”
