NetStorage Instructions

PC using Netscape Instructions



To access your NetStorage space from outside a Student Technology Fee Computer Lab using WebBrowser on a PC in Netscape.

 

For any user, public access is available at non-Student Technology Fee labs, home, office or wherever you have an Internet connection.  You can access the same storage using WebBrowser.

Please review ALL instructions below before accessing your NetStorage Space. 


Once you have reviewed the instructions, click here to go to NetStorage.


The Prompt box will appear where you will enter your User Name (your W number) and your email password.


Click "OK"

You are now logged into your space in NetStorage.



Double click on the Home@SLUCSD folder which will open the public_html folder shown below

For the purposes of saving files in NetStorage you should first create a new folder.

In the future we will provide instructions on using the public_html folder to store your personal web pages.

To create a new folder, Click on "File" and Select "New Folder."

AJavaScript Application box will appear. 
Fill in the name you wish to give to your folder.  An example is shown.

Your screen will then refresh and your new folder will be included in the list of folders that are in Home@SLUCSD as seen on the right.

Uploading a File

 

To upload a file you've created or revised to your NetStorage space first save it on your computer.  The recommended location is "My Documents". 

Next, login to NetStorage and go to "Your NetStorage folder" where you want to upload the file to. Click on "File" and then "Upload File".

The Uploading file box will appear.  Click "Browse" to find the location on your computer where the file is saved.

Find your "My Documents" folder.

Select the file you wish to upload and Click "Open".

The Upload file will show the location of the file in the File: space.  Click "Upload" to begin the upload process.

The page you are saving will upload to your NetStorage space.
To complete upload

To logout of NetStorage click on the icon near the top of your NetStorage screen that looks like the one circled on the right.

When you are logged out you will see the message below.

Downloading a File

 

To download a file from your NetStorage space, right click on the file name and the box shown on the right will appear.  Select "Download for Editing".

The "Waiting for File" box appear and you should select "Save it to disk" and Click "OK" Save File


The Save As box will appear.  Go to "My Documents".  Click "Save".

Once the document has been downloaded from your NetStorage space to your computer's "My Document " folder you will either:

1 - See the "Download complete" box shown here.  Click "Open" to open the file for editing.

2 - Or you will not see the Download complete box and will need to go through Windows Explorer to find the file you wish to open for file editing.  Click "Open"

The file will be opened and you can make whatever editing changes are needed.

Click the Save icon and close the program.  You will return to the "Waiting for File/Editing File" box shown below.

Click "Browse" and the Choose file box will appear.

It will then appear in the File box.  Click "Finished" and the file will be uploaded with your changes. Selecting file to upload

To logout of NetStorage click on the icon near the top of your NetStorage screen that looks like the one circled on the right.
