Greek Life

Greek Life

One unique area that you can get involved with on campus is the Greek Community.  Greek organizations offer a unique living and learning envirnoment that is different from all other student groups.  The fraternities and sororities at Southeastern were founded on ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and involvement.  These organizations also provide an opportunity to network with alumni and other members nationwide.  Membership is not just a college activity, but a lifetime experience.

Panhellenic Council

When you become a member of one of the five national sororities at Southeastern Louisiana University, you become a member of the an even larger association called the Panhellenic Council. Panhellenic is the central governing body of all SLU sororities. The SLU Panhellenic Council organizes activities of mutual concern and interest to all the sororities on campus. Our Panhellenic is part of an even larger organization, the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), which includes all 26 national sororities.

The five National Panhellenic Conference Sororities on campus are:

Alpha Omicron Pi

Alpha Sigma Tau

Phi Mu

Sigma Sigma Sigma

Theta Phi Alpha

Pan-Hellenic Council

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC) was formed in 1930 at Howard University to serve as an umbrella organization for the nationally predominantly African-American Greek organizations.  Each of these organizations evolved at a time when African-Americans were denied essential rights and services afforded to to others.  These organizations were designed to foster a growth of brotherhood and sisterhood and serve as conduits by which action plans could be formulated and coordinated.  Today, NPHC is comprised over 1.5 million members.

Southeastern Louisiana University is home to eight of the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities:
