Technology Enhanced Courses

Dr. Patricia Hart

Dr. Patricia Hart, a music professor at the St. Tammany Center, orchestrates quite an arrangement every Thursday night.  Dr. Hart can be seen (and heard) utilizing the room's integrated audio and video projection system.  She uses the SMARTBoard and projector for PowerPoint lectures, the DVD/CD player for music listening and the document camera to teach the keyboard. When asked why she believes technology is important in education Dr. Hart says "the use of multiple technologies allows students to experience new information in a number of ways.  Since students have different learning styles, they process information in different ways.  Technology provides teachers with the tools to present material in a variety of formats-verbal or visual, concrete or abstract, individual or interpersonal."

Technology Enhanced Classrooms

The St. Tammany Center has many technology enhanced classrooms that make learning more interesting.  SMARTBoards, projectors, computers, computer labs, video and audio projection are many of the tools instructors can use to enhance lecture and lab materials.

Internet Classes

Southeastern offers many classes with an Internet component or meet 100% of the time online. Many classes have a 50/50 mix, meaning that students meet 50% of the time in “live” class sessions while the other 50% of the time is spent completing an array of on-line assignments. For additional details regarding specific class formats, contact the instructor for the class of interest.

Compressed Video Classes

Classes are also offered via compressed video (or teleconferencing) at the St. Tammany Center. This class format allows an instructor to teach from one location and broadcast the audio and video to other sites. Although the instructor may not be physically located at the St. Tammany Center, he/she is able to answer student questions at any of the sites receiving the broadcast. Additionally, an on-site proctor is available to assist students.
