Training

A part of your SPS experience

After being hired, reading the SPS Employee Handbook is your introduction to training.  The SPS office recommends that right after you are hired, you read the entire handbook.  This handbook contains lots of information regarding the policies and procedures of working on campus and for the SPS office. It contains answers to many of the questions students have when first being hired.  Our handbook is on-line so that you will always have access to it.

The SPS Training Program

All SPS employees (student workers and GAs) will receive valuable on-the-job training.  In addition, the following training courses are offered each semester as part of the SPS training program:

  • MS Excel
  • MS PowerPoint
  • MS Word
  • BlackBoard
  • Communication Skills
  • Customer Service
  • Ethics
  • Time Management
  • Leadership Skills
  • Conflict Resolution
  • SPS Orientation
  • Lab Basics

These courses are to be completed by the end of the first year worked.  They are offered in 1-hour workshop form as well as online courses in BlackBoard.

With supervisor's approval, these courses should be taken when scheduled to work as part of your work duties.  At the end of each semester, certificates of achievement will be issued for every course successefully completed.

To view your training records through Spring 2008, log into your Blackboard account and find the "Training Tracker" under Course Document in the SPS Training Course.
