February 25, 2013 - Campus Budget Update
As you likely have seen from press reports over the weekend, the 2013-14 fiscal year Executive Budget for the State of Louisiana was presented this past Friday to the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. The Executive Budget is proposed by the Governor to the Legislature, representing the first step in a process that could continue through the end of the Legislative Session on June 6.
Media reports indicate the Executive Budget proposes a level of total funding for higher education next fiscal year similar to the current year; however, I remain very cautious given that there appear to be numerous contingencies, uncertainties and unknown details that could significantly impact the final outcome.
We will continue to study the details of the proposed Executive Budget, as well as follow and participate in the deliberative process going forward. While the Legislative Session does not begin until April 8, the House Appropriations Committee will begin holding hearings on the budget in the near future.
