A Message from the President
June 4, 2012 - Campus Update
House Bill 1, the State’s budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, was approved by the Legislature Sunday evening, with the House concurring with the Senate’s version that restored some of the reduction in state funds previously made by the House of Representatives.
The House of Representatives also approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 128 by the necessary 2/3 majority, paving the way for money from the Budget Stabilization (Rainy Day) Fund to be used to help make up part of the shortfall in the current fiscal year which ends June 30.
While both of these developments will help mitigate the potential budget reductions we otherwise would face, the challenges for next fiscal year certainly will not be eliminated.
Although the current Legislative Session will officially conclude at 6pm today, questions regarding the detailed impact of the State budget on Southeastern will likely remain unanswered for several more days. In fact, we will not know the final result until the relevant legislation is signed by the Governor and we receive allocations through the Board of Regents and the University of Louisiana System. As always, I will keep you apprised of developments.
