A Message from the President
December 29, 2011 - Campus Budget Update
As explained in my last campus update, we recently were charged with submitting a plan by December 27, to reduce our current operating budget by nearly $2.5 million. Staff members worked diligently over part of the Christmas break to identify the required budget savings yet still preserve core functions.
Accordingly, a significant part of the reduction, approximately $1.23 million, will be achieved by eliminating budgeted salaries and fringe benefits associated with a number of faculty and staff positions that are vacant at present due to retirements and resignations. In addition, funds previously budgeted for travel, supplies, acquisitions, athletics, repairs, maintenance and other operating costs will be reduced by approximately $950,000. We will also realize $264,000 of the reduction through additional savings achieved over the remainder of the fiscal year in utilities, insurance and summer school costs.
Any additional budget developments will be shared with the campus community.
I hope that everyone enjoys the remainder of the holiday break.
