A Message from the President
December 22, 2011 - Campus Budget Update
As I shared in my campus email this past Thursday, the State recently recognized a $198 million mid-year budget shortfall. We learned late Friday afternoon that the impact of this shortfall to Southeastern will be a mid-year budget reduction of $2,445,228.
Ongoing concerns about the State’s fiscal situation and the possibility for mid-year reductions, prompted us to budget conservatively this fiscal year. In addition, we have not filled a number of faculty and staff positions that have become vacant due to retirements and resignations, and we anticipate the related attrition savings will help offset part of the current mid-year reduction.
Our detailed plan for adjusting the budget is due to the University of Louisiana System on December 27. We will be working over the next several days to ascertain the specific adjustments required and will share additional information with the campus as these details become available.
