A Message from the President
May 12, 2011 - Governor’s Executive Order Spending Freeze
As you may have seen in recent news reports, earlier this week Governor Jindal signed an Executive Order freezing spending by State agencies. This freeze appears to be in reaction to concerns regarding ongoing and upcoming State fiscal challenges.
While we still have not received any clarification or additional guidance from the Division of Administration on the implementation of the Order, it may have a significant impact on our operations at least for the remainder of the current fiscal year.
The only clear exception to the spending freeze provided for post-secondary education is the purchase of essential instructional supplies. Operating fund expenditures not already encumbered for travel, acquisitions and all other items and services appear to be frozen under the Order.
Budget unit heads are directed to exercise extreme caution in the expenditure of funds until additional guidance is available. Additionally, budget units heads should communicate with Mr. Stephen Smith, Vice President for Administration and Finance, with any questions about the Order.
Additional information will be provided as soon as it is available.
