University Police Uniform Shoulder PatchWe are a full-service law enforcement agency with officers commissioned through the Louisiana Department of Public safety and Corrections.  All of our officers are certified according to the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council’s requirements within the first year of employment.

We offer job experience in a learning environment.  Our Field Training Officer Program orients new officers to police work and gives them a chance to experience "street work" in a learning environment prior to expectations of solo action.

We offer professional educational and training opportunities.  Employees at Southeastern Louisiana University can qualify for a University Program through which they may attend job-related college credit courses during work hours and at a greatly reduced cost.  In some cases, tuition fees may be entirely waived.  Also, our officers, after completion of the POST Academy, attend specialized training courses including Sexual Assault Investigations, Interview and Interrogation, Crime Scene Investigations and Evidence Handling, Advanced Firearms and Firearms Instructor Schools, Hostage and Crisis Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Alcohol and Drug Identification and Enforcement. These are the same classes attended by officers and administrators from other agencies, creating networking opportunities and allowing a new officer to establish himself/herself

in the law enforcement community.
