The Southeastern Recycling Program
Recycling is a more responsible way to manage our planet's finite resources by reusing materials instead of burying them in a landfill. The ultimate benefits from recycling are cleaner land, air, and water, overall better health, and a more sustainable economy.
Our Recycling Totals
At Southeastern, we have recycled over 7 tons of recyclable waste in the first 10 months of our program. You can track our totals through Collections to Date. Nationally, we recycled 85 million tons of municipal solid waste last year. This reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 193 million metric tons, comparable to removing the emissions from 35 million passenger cars.
Louisiana's Initiatives
The state of Louisiana is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our industries. In July 2008, Louisiana initiated the state’s green efforts by order of the governor. Recycling has environmental benefits at every stage in the life cycle of a consumer product—from the raw material with which it’s made to its final method of disposal. Aside from reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change, recycling also reduces air and water pollution associated with making new products from raw materials. By recycling and repurposing, we can reduce our carbon footprint and breathe life back into our planet.
