International Student Support
On behalf of the Southeastern Louisiana University and the International Affairs staff, welcome to the University community. You are embarking on an exciting new journey and a truly rewarding educational experience. Southeastern values the holistic development of students and our office is committed to providing opportunities to assist you in learning through your academic pursuits as well as from your contacts outside of the classroom. Through organizational involvement, program participation, and sharing your cultural heritage with others, you will make a significant contribution to our University. Thus, we invite you to take advantage of the many opportunities to learn about a new culture and to teach others about your country and culture.
Campus Activities:
Cultural Excursions
When possible, field trips to area attractions are organized, serving as a means of introducing Louisiana culture to international students.
International Welcome Activities
The International Welcome Dinner, sponsored by International Student Ministry, and International Night, sponsored by St. Albert’s Student Center, are held at the beginning of each fall semester to welcome new and returning international students to Southeastern.
New Student Orientation
International Orientation is a program that gives new students the opportunity to become comfortable at Southeastern providing services, policies, advising requirements, immigration counseling, and registration procedures.
International Education Week
International Education Week is a weeklong celebration of everything international. It takes place each November, and the events are designed to promote internationalism in hopes that our students will become “global citizens” and to help our foreign students feel welcome at our University.
Cultural/Holiday Celebrations
Each semester, we sponsor, or co-sponsor with student organizations or other departments, several events to help our international students celebrate important holidays and share their cultures with the Southeastern community.
Services:
Walmart Shopping Shuttle
The Shuttle Services office (Lion Traxx) works with the office of Multicultural & International Student Affairs to provide a bi-weekly shopping shuttle to Walmart. Every other Thursday night, it picks students up at two locations on campus and makes several trips to and from Walmart. Since Walmart is a store that carries almost everything, many students who don't have their own transportation take advantage of this service to purchase things such as food, clothing, household items, electronics, and more. For additional information, including the schedule of service days and times for this semester, click here.
Graphing Calculator Loan
In conjunction with Phi Beta Delta, we provide graphing calculators for international students to borrow. There are 10 calculators, and they are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis for one semester at a time. Interested students may come to the MISA office and fill out a check-out form to borrow one.
With Your Unique Needs in Mind!
International Student Ministry assists international students with grocery shopping, securing donated furniture and bicycles, English conversation classes and much more.
