Ready, Set, Going to College

One Monday (1/14/07), then Tuesdays/Thursdays (1/15/07 - 2/21/07)

The objective of Ready, Set, Going to College is to assist GED students and Adults with overcoming barriers to entering college and achieving college success.  Our five week program offers guidance on Financial Aid; Filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); ACT Preparation; test taking strategy; admissions process for various colleges; and student success.

The Art of the Native American Flute

Thursdays from 6-8:00 p.m. 2/7/08 - 3/13/07

The curriculum includes classes in history and culture of the North American Flute, basic playing techniques and traditional ornamentations, developing your music in both improvisation and composition, construction and maintenance of the flute, access to organizations and resources, how to work with students, advanced playing secrets, and much more.

In partnership with the Louisiana Technical College, the course provides an introductory study of the basics and fundamentals of Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  This course helps to develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows learning by doing.  Earn 2 college credits from Louisiana Technical College.

Life Story Writing Workshop - Memoirs, Autobiographies, Anecdotes, Letters

Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. 1/17/08 - 2/21/08 (no class on 2/14/08)

Cost:  $125

Materials: 

Instructor:  Dr. Beth Calloway

 

Participants will produce, edit, and revise drafts leading to a polished memoir piece suitable for publication.  Mini-workshops will include discussions of various elements of good memoir writing, and published authors will share their expertise.

Free Computer Class - IT Service Learning

Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m.  3/5/08 - 5/7/08

Cost:  Free

 Instructor:  Dr. Ihssan Alkadi

 

Hands-on computer instruction and one-on-one tutoring from 7:40-8 p.m.  Instruction covers computer basics; how to purchase a computer/laptop; internet and email; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; complete computer projects in class; and an overview of Microsoft 2007.
