Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code allows Southeastern Louisiana University to offer a Cafeteria Plan that allows full-time employees to increase their take-home pay by reducing their taxes. Under the cafeteria plan, coverage for qualified benefit plans can be paid for on a pre-tax basis. This means that any benefits you elect to receive under the plan are not taxed, and are not included in your taxable income.
Once an employee decides to enter the Cafeteria Plan, they become locked-in to their Benefit package and unable to drop-out or change plans except during Open Enrollment in the month of November.
