Clinical Staff

Dr. Barbara Hebert, L.P.C.-S, Registered Play Therapist-S

Dr. Barbara Hebert is the Director of the University Counseling Center at Southeastern Louisiana University.  She holds a Ph.D.  in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans and is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.  Dr. Hebert has served as  Asst. Professor and Coordinator of School Counseling  at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.  She has also been an adjunct instructor at the University of New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University, a private mental health practitioner, and a secondary school counselor. In addition, Dr. Hebert supervises LPC-interns and volunteers as a play therapist at the Children's Advocacy Center in Covington, Louisiana. She has presented at state, regional, national and international professional conferences and has published in both state and national professional journals.

 

Dr. Tom Caffery, L.M.F.T.

Dr. Tom Caffery is a full-time counselor at the University Counseling Center. He holds an Ed.D. in counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Caffery has served as an Assistant Professor, Clinical Coordinator, and Coordinator of the Community Counselor Program at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and as an Assistant Professor, Clinical Coordinator,and Coordinator of the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Southeastern. He has a special interest in couples and relationship counseling, as well as working with anxiety, depression, and family issues. Dr. Caffery has presented at numerous state, national, and international conferences, and has published in state and national professional journals. In addition, he is co-editor, along with Dr. Phyllis Erdman of Washington State University, of a book entitled "Attachment and Family Systems."

 

Annette Newton-Baldwin, M.A., L.P.C., L.M.F.T

Annette Newton-Baldwin is a full-time counselor at the University Counseling Center. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She is a native of Slidell, Louisiana.  In 1997, she earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She has a special interest in substance abuse recovery counseling as well as working with clients who have PTSD. Annette has worked in a variety of settings including Bancroft NeuroHealth Rehabilitation Center in Covington and New Orleans, Straight and Narrow Treatment Center of Baton Rouge, and LifeStreams Behavioral Center of Leesburg, Florida. She has been employed at Southeastern since 2003.  She is a past member of Chi Sigma Iota.

 

Paige LeBleu Moody, M.S., L.P.C. N.C.C. L.M.F.T.

Paige LeBleu Moody is a three-quarter time counselor at the University Counseling Center. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a National Certified Counselor and is also certified in EMDR.  Paige is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana.  In 1989, she earned a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Paige has been employed at Southeastern since 1989.  She has a special interest in adjustment disorders, PTSD, depression, anxiety and couples counseling. She was previously employed by Charter Hospital. She is a current member of the Louisiana Counseling Association and a past member of Chi Sigma Iota and the American Counseling Association.  Paige served as past executive secretary for the Louisiana Counseling Association. 

 

Amy Livingston Oberschmidt, M.ED, L.P.C.

Amy Livingston Oberschmidt is a full time counselor at the University Counseling Center. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is a native of Hammond, Louisiana. In 1997, Amy earned a Master of Education in Counselor Education from Southeastern Louisiana University and began working for the University in 1998. She has a special interest in adjustment disorders, depression and anxiety issues as well as sports psychology and organizational behavior. Amy has worked in a variety of settings including DePelchin Children's Center in Houston, Texas. Amy returned to Southeastern in 2004. She is a member of the American  Counseling Association, the Louisiana Counseling Association and is a past member of Chi  Sigma Iota. Amy has presented at both state and international conferences.

 

Angela James, M.Ed., NCC

Angela James graduated from Southeastern in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication. In 2004, she received her Master's degree in Counselor Education and became a Nationally Certified Counselor. Angela has over thirteen years experience in higher education having worked in various areas of Student Affairs since she was a freshman in college. She is a lifelong resident of Hammond, LA.

 

Practicum/Internship Students

The University Counseling Center also serves as a practicum/internship site for Master's level students completing graduate work in Counseling.  These students are an integral part of the clinical work at the UCC as they hone their counseling skills.

 

 Administrative Staff

Elizabeth "Libby" Richardson

Libby has worked in the the capacity of Administrative Assistant I for three years. She is a native of Ponchatoula. Libby says that she enjoys working with the sensitive and caring staff of the University Counseling Center.

 

Brenda Sciortino

Brenda currently serves as Administrative Assistant II. She has been employed at Southeastern Louisiana University since 1993. Brenda is a native of Baton Rouge.  Brenda received her Associate's Degree in December 2008.
