Funding Opportunities

The Center offers the following support to assist faculty in addressing their needs as university teachers and scholars.

Teaching Research Travel

TEACHING

Proposals are reviewed by the Faculty Excellence Committee.

Center’s Innovative Teaching Initiative (CITI)

This initiative provides support for faculty to persue projects that will have a direct impact upon classroom instruction.  Projects may promote service-learning, link community engagement and civic responsibility to the classroom, enhance courses with technology, encourage faculty-student or student-student research and interaction, or create K-12 and business partnerships for learning.  The call for proposals is distributed in the Spring Semester for the following fiscal year.  Individual grant proposals are limited to $2,000.

Center's Innovative Teaching Initiative for the creation of Telecourses (CITI-TELE)

The Center solicits proposals to expand the academic opportunities provided by the award winning Southeastern Channel.  Individual grant proposals are limited to $1,000.

Grants for Teaching Enhancement

These grants are much smaller than CITI grants and are designed to enhance classroom teaching in three areas: Professional Development in Teaching, Course Enhancement, and Curriculum Development or Revision.  These grants are offered and awarded in the Fall Semester to be spent in the current fiscal year.  Individual proposals are limited to a maximum of $400 per faculty member.

LEAD Grants

The purpose of these competitive grants is to enable and empower Southeastern's faculty to Lead the way in making a difference in their scholarly/creative, campus, professional, and wider communities as we move toward Southeastern's Vision 2010.

Institutes for Teaching and Professional Enhancement - ITPE

These year-long institutes provide faculty an opportunity for intensive training and dialogue in a selected area which has the potential to enhance the learning and teaching experiences of students and faculty. ITPEs are announced in the Spring semester and begin with one or more training sessions in the summer, continuing with “follow-up” seminars during the academic year.

Faculty Development

This program provides grants up to a maximum of $2,000 to offset certain costs associated with the research, scholarly or creative activities of full-time faculty.  Grants are awarded for basic research, manuscript writing, or creative endeavors in the arts.  The call for proposals is distributed in the Spring Semester for the following fiscal year.

Travel Grants

This program provides grants to assist full-time faculty with travel expenses while making professional presentations.  The grants are limited to $1,200 for international travel and $800 for national travel with a $1,200 limit per individual per fiscal year.  Funding does not cover meals.  Requests are awarded on a quarterly basis; there is no limit to the number of requests that may be submitted each quarter.

Mini-Grants

This program is designed to help the full-time faculty/researcher or one involved in creative activities who is faced with an expenditure that is critical and necessary for project completion. The maximum available for a mini-grant is $150. Requests are awarded on a quarterly basis.  Only one mini-grant request can be submitted per quarter.

Journal Grants

This program is designed to help full-time faculty offset page costs incurred by publishing in a journal.  Proposals may also be submitted for the cost of reprints of an article published in a journal. The maximum available for a journal article is $150. Only one journal grant application will be considered per quarter.

Orr Memorial Research Fund

Through the generosity of the Orr family, an additional source of research funding is available to SLU faculty. The Research and Grants Committee has been charged with the responsibility of awarding these funds. Only tenured faculty members above the level of instructor are eligible and the completed research should be worthy of publication.  A request for proposals will be made by September 1.  Funding is limited to what has accumulated over the previous fiscal year.
