Student Employment
What is Student Employment?
The Student Employment Office within Career Services at Southeastern continuously works hard to establish relationships with hundreds of employers in an effort to locate off-campus part-time jobs and internship opportunities for any Southeastern student who wants to work while in school. It is our job to tap into the local job market and provide you with a multitude of opportunities. This page makes it easy for you to find information about those opportunities all in one place!
Part-Time Jobs (Off-Campus)
All off-campus part-time job opportunities are listed with Career Services Student Employment Office via Experience eRecruiting. In order to have access to these positions, you will need to register in eRecruiting which involves completing a personal profile. Once your registration is complete, you will be able to search for part-time jobs. If you have previously created an account in eRecruiting, you do not need to create a new account. If you have forgotten your log-on information, please contact the Office of Career Services.
In order to register with eRecruiting to review Part-Time job opportunities, you must read through the Instruction Guide. Doing so will not only help you register quickly, but it will also provide you with helpful hints to search for part-time job opportunities that meet your needs.
Part-Time Jobs (On-Campus)
On-Campus Part-Time Jobs and Graduate Assistantships are not handled through the Student Employment Office of Career Services. If you are interested in an On-Campus Part-Time Job or Graduate Assistantship at Southeastern, please visit the Southeastern Student Employment Network. The Student Employment Network page will provide you with information about eligibility requirements and job openings for both student work-study and graduate assistantship positions.
Internships
Internships can lead you towards a successful career! An internship is a supervised work experience that supplements and enhances a student’s academic coursework. Internships are generally short-term (one or two semesters), have pre-established learning goals, and reflect actively on what students are learning or majoring in while in school.
Ideally, an internship offers practical experience in a potential career field. They are designed to help students understand the "real world" applications of their academic studies. They are distinct from jobs obtained primarily for economic reasons. The purpose of an internship is to bridge the gap between what is learned in the classroom and the actual world of work.
Internships can be paid or unpaid. Involvement may be part-time, as little as 10 hours a week up to full-time. Opportunities are available during summer, fall, or spring semesters. Academic credit may be awarded at the discretion of students’ academic departments. See your college’s academic intern coordinator for more information about academic credit. Even if you cannot get academic credit, remember that the most important benefit is not the credit, but the learning, networking, improved skills and “real world” experience you get.
Part-Time Job Fairs
Each semester, the Student Employment Office of Career Services hosts a part-time job fair in an effort to bring over 40 employers with hiring needs directly to you! These events are located in the Student Union Mall outside the Lion’s Den. Unlike Career Fair, they are casual in nature, so be sure to come as you are – at lunch and in between your classes.
The Fall Part-Time Job Fair, held each August during the first or second week of classes, focuses on part-time positions. Starting a new part-time job is a great way to kick off the new school year.
The Summer Jobs and Internships Fair, held in late April, consists of employers with hiring needs for the summer. Various camps and other summer hot spots will be represented in addition to other area employers with hiring needs. Working during the summer is a great way to spend the break, not only can you earn some money, but you can also gain some valuable skills that will contribute towards fulfilling your career goals.
