The world of journalism is changing, and expectations about what is considered news is also changing. Technology is obviously palying a major part in this time of change, and the students will explore how they are using technology now, and what they view is the future of communication.
This 4-day workshop is for students who are currently working on their school yearbooks or newspapers or for those who have an interest in having a career in journalism. The workshop will consist of discussions concerning news and its components. Starting the very first day, the instructor will teach students how to write strong stories and add intersting visual elements. Students will learn basic photography and how to build interesting graphics. They also will receive actual writing assignments and be challenged to write under deadlines and meet editor expectations. Students will build their own news blogs and begin uploading content to their Websites. They will bring examples of their school publications and discuss ideas to improve them, as well as share their successful experiences with others in the workshop.
On the final day of the workshop, students will be offered guidance to make their individual publications successful. Students will be encouraged to get editors and advisors behind them to make their writing stronger. In addition, the instructor will have professional journalists as guest speakers (via Skype) who will offer career advice in the field of journalism. |
